Soroptimist International holds consultative status with the UN ECOSOC and other UN Agencies and supports the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
“Soroptimist” originated from two Latin words, soro meaning sister and optima meaning best – “helping women to be their best”. Soroptimist clubs are non-political, non-religious, voluntary organisations. Soroptimist International is the world’s largest women’s community service organisation with over 90,000 members in 125 countries, but each club is autonomous.
